Friday Favorites #7

Hi everyone, I am back again with my new series I share every week with all of you. We are on episode #7 and these are my top picks of the week in the F category … F like … Friday. Food, Foto, Fun, Fashion, Ferry, Find.

FASHION- I love how Dolce & Gabbana’s ad campaigns transport you right to Southern Italy and beautifully capture so much color and vibrancy that is the Italian, and specifically in this picture below, Capri Island culture. I especially love how they typically incorporate food in their print shots- gelato, lemons, oranges, seafood, but this spaghetti print dress nailed it, artistically! Take a look at their visually appealing publicity campaign from current and past seasons it’s a real feast for the eyes.

Above grainy picture is my own taken at a Dolce & Gabbana boutique in Honolulu (love how relevant the pineapple top and bag are In Hawaii)

FUN– I found this article written by a British Airlines flight attendant, and every single tip was spot-on funny!  Click on over to know what 21 things passengers should stop doing on an airplane.

FIND– Mixing it up on my hour-plus car-ride home today and diving  into this interesting new podcast called S-Town  The premise is about a man who calls a reporter to come investigate a small town in Alabama where a possible murder has been covered up. The main character is quite mysterious and I’ll be interested to know more. I tackled two of the 12 chapters and I’m hoping my drives will be a lot easier with interesting material to listen to.

Friday Favorites #6

Hi everyone, I am back again with my new series I share every week with all of you. We are on episode #6 and these are my top picks of the week in the F category … F like … Friday. Food, Foto, Fun, Fashion, Ferry, Find.

<Buona Pasqua a tutti> Have a Happy Easter weekend

FRESH AIR AND CLEAR SKIES– after all the rain California’s gotten this winter,  it’s caused my allergies to flare up but you can’t  beat how crisp and green everything is.

FIND- This pastel blue vintage-textured rug. Target has really stepped it up in the quality and selection of home goods they now carry. What blew me away was their seemingly unlimited collection of online options in the rug department alone. I found a great sale with 10% off of sale prices and free shipping to store. I ordered it late last night and it was in my home the very next morning.

FRIEND– missing my buddy who went to doggy heaven last week. Rommel was the most fun-loving dog you ever met. He loved to be out cruising and keeping close tabs on my dad and was always rearing to go.

Friday Favorites #4

Hi everyone, I am back again with my new series I share every week with all of you. We are on episode # 4 and these are my top picks of the week in the F category … F like … Friday. Food, Foto, Fun, Fashion, Ferry, Find.

This week is just few hours late because of the gigantic changes going on at iliveitalian Headquarters!

Don’t hesitate and leave a comment or a suggestion.

FASHION: Just discovered while in NYC that they have no sales tax on clothing items for under $110. Shopping time! I found these cute suede lace-up pom-pom sandals that were 30% off plus no tax and they were giving away $20 off $100 spent. So go shop and save in New York! Like at this shop below with my namesake.

FIND: This cool portable oven that Alessandro wrote about and I can’t wait to try. They come in fun colors to  choose from.

FAREWELL: Richard Branson’s emotional farewell on the “departure” of Virgin America.  They definitely brought innovation and fun back to the airline industry. I’m curious to see what Virgin does next.

FIRMA: (Signature in Italian) Great things happening over here. More to come in a future post!

An oven in your luggage?

As a traveling crew member, one of the biggest discomforts is when you plan to eat healthy food on your 2 or 3 consecutive layovers and after cooking, boxing, freezing and packing, you get to a hotel which does not provide a microwave in the room.

Actually, what I was thinking actually happens quite frequently. Meghan as well, sometimes finds herself in the same situation and all the good proposals to be considerate about quality and food costs on overnights are threatened by the unavailability of a microwave.

Looking around and searching, one colleague of mine just showed me this amazing tool which soon will be sitting into my food bag: HotLogic Mini Personal Portable Oven

This portable food warmer or carriable oven is very compact and collapsable so it can be placed in the luggage or the lunch bag without taking too much space.

It’s enough to connect the plug, put your food container inside and warm it up with no problems at all. Hard to believe (haven’t tried but only read about) you can even cook a nice piece of chicken without stove at all!

The way it works is genius: the little bag has an aluminum lining to keep the internal temperature and the hot plate warms up your glass or plastic container, not too intensely, which allows the food to defrost, warmup and not get soggy or burnt. Hot logic mentions that you can let it run for hours and the food will be ready anytime and not spoiled.

The black version is always perfect, but Amazon has different colors available: blue, orange, yellow, purple and pink. Also available is the car adapter to use it literally on the go. The whole personal oven collapses and can be placed into any purse, lunch bag or travel bag.

The price of this device is 35,95$ and really can save you a lot on money for your lunches!

Definitely a life changer for travelers like us!

FUN: Watching a lot of matches from home on the Tennis Channel from Indian Wells BNP Paribas Tennis Tournament and wishing I was there! Next year for sure. Feeling like a pro in my new tennis set Alessandro bought me and enjoying playing matches late into the evening since Daylights Saving last week.

FERRY (TRAVEL): Enjoying some much needed work R&R at our new hotel layover.

Have a fun and safe St. Patty’s Day weekend.

Cherry blossoms in bloom on an exceptionally warm day in the city during the first days of March.

FUN: I just booked our trip to the Amalfi Coast this August! I came across a killer deal while browsing Hotels.com just for fun and found a magical cliffside stay at Le Terrazze. The property is old world romantic luxury with stellar views of the Mediterranean Sea.  I’m excited to go back to one of my favorite parts of Italy this summer.

FIND: Came across this delicious lemon prickly pear sparkling Italian soda at World Market which is refreshing and citrusy and would go well mixed with  prosecco which I plan to try during the weekend. The tart blood orange flavor is my favorite!

FOOD: loving these “Trader Giotto’s” Porcini Mushroom & Truffle Triangoli while the weather is still chilly. They’re  savory delicious when pared with a small pat of butter and topped with parmigiano reggiano cheese. It’s such a simple and fast meal to throw together in under 8 minutes including bringing the water to boil.

FOTO:  “pining” driftwood diy projects and getting inspired to make one of these cool floor lamps  after taking home lots of great pieces, washed up on our local beach after much needed rainstorms in Southern California.

FASHION/FIND: found this great black versatile jumpsuit  at Lulu’s online  that looks so classy and chic with a sexy back cutout and a price point that is unbeatable. Get 10% off your first order when you sign up.

FUN: It was a great night out this past Saturday in Hollywood at the Los Angeles Italia Film Festival to see the U.S. premier of ” Beata Ignoranza” on the closing night of the Italian Film Festival held at the TCL Chinese Theater. Looking forward to going to the annual fest next year, held the week before the Oscars each year.
